How to go about fighting speed camera tickets

I've been back in money-hungry Maryland for two months - in that time I've already gotten three camera tickets. Two for speeding and one for red light (completely guilty on that one). I just got one in the mail that I completely did not see coming (I drive the speed limit in Tacoma Park).

Out of the camera ticket's I've gotten for speeding, all of them (like six total) have been at exactly 12 mph over (they give you 11 mph until a ticket). These ticket things have been proven to be faulty in the past and even unconstitutional in some states (I think Missouri is one).

I'm done with getting screwed over by the state of Maryland, either in the form of tickets or taxing for anything and everything including rainfall.

So I'm going to court - how do I get off this ticket?

I'm pretty sure I wasn't speeding. I know this road is bugged with cameras. Maryland has had multiple incidents where these things have been wrong.

Ask for calibration records, I was with my dad recently and we passed one of those show me my speed dealies, it said we were going 12mph over (incorrect according to the car's speedometer). After we passed that we realized we were lost and turned around, we were going the exact same speed as we were going the opposite direction and the dealie on the way back said we were only going 1mph over (correct according to the car's speedometer).

It's a $40 no-point ticket. It's for the principal.

If it's one of those, don't bother. It's not worth the fight for a low-fine, no-point ticket that doesn't even go on your record. I know it probably isn't what you want to hear, but just pay it :(

Does that $40 fine go up if you try to fight it in court?

You have five speeding tickets in how long and you're fighting this one on principal? For $40 I would have something better to focus on than principals.

either ask for calibration records, or get a dashcam with a GPS speedo and use that as evidence to back you up if it happens again.

every month these types of camera systems have to go through a "calibration process". Basically the camera and an on-site police officer run the speed of various vehicles using their respective speed guns. If the camera speed matches the PDs speed gun it's given a pass and that will be used against you in court should you attempt to fight it. Sorry.

At least most sites in Maryland are fixed so you can just learn of their positions and be cautious. Mobile units are becoming popular but most states require a warning zone signage to be present.

In Arizona we ignore them.
